TFALAC is a registered state PAC. It carefully tries to vet candidates for the state legislature and decide which ones are most likely to be strong supports of the 2nd Amendment and TFA’s own legislative goals. In some instances, the candidates it decides to support are incumbents who have a proven record of unwaivering support for the TFA’s mission and goals. In other instances, the support goes to candidates who are running against incumbents who either are not strong supporters because they support bad policy legislation or they are simply fence-sitters who hold an office which we think might be better held by a stronger advocate for 2nd Amendment issues.
The decision to financially support a candidate should not be construed or interpreted as an endorsement because neither TFA nor TFALAC make endorsements or even “ratings” as a general rule. However, the decision to financially support or oppose a candidate can be considered as relevant to the decisions made by TFALAC as to how to invest PAC funds to advance 2nd Amendment issues. Note, however, that the fact that a candidate does not receive PAC support does not mean that they are a problem incumbent or legislator. It could just as easily mean that there is no challenger in the race or that they do not need financial support given their other resources.
